Programme evaluation and scientific support

The Deutsche Jugendinstitut e. V. (DJI) is responsible for programme evaluation within the federal programme "Live Democracy!".

Programme evaluation examines the implementation and effects of the programme activities overall, classifies them functionally and evaluates them. The participative based valuation is based primarily on experience gained from the in-depth scientific support provided for the individual areas of the federal programme. In addition to clarifying general questions, this also, primarily, records and analysed specific action strategies within the programme areas.

The provision of scientific support for the programme areas "Federal State Democracy Centres", "Structural Support through Central Government Organisations " and "Pilot Projects" is the responsibility of the DJI itself.

The partnerships for democracy are scientifically supported by the two social science institutes ISS-Frankfurt a.M. and Camino (Berlin).

The main focuses of the scientific support for the partnerships for democracy are monitoring the implementation and realisation of the partnerships for democracy, tracing their development, examining their achievement of their goals and dealing with the following themes in greater depth:

  • youth participation and use of youth funding,
  • aligning the content and changing the structure of the work of the support committees,
  • creating structures and developing coordination points with specialist units,
  • networking and maintaining a public profile,
  • developing the action and initiative fund and carrying out projects.

In addition, the DJI is also home to the Work and Research Centre for Preventing Right-Wing Extremism and Radicalisation, which examines current manifestations of right-wing extremism and latently violent Islamism, the associated youth policy and educational challenges and the practical experience gained in this area. The main aspects of this include gaining relevant practical knowledge of youth (phase)-specific dimensions, securing and systematising practical educational experience and exchanging knowledge and experience with neighbouring European countries. Their knowledge is then integrated into the further development of the federal programmes.
